The Opening Night of tiff Next Wave kicked off with the always epic Battle of the Scores competition! In this high-octane, high-profile showcase of young musical talent, bands performed their original soundtracks for three different short films — live.
Programmed in collaboration with Insomniac Film Festival, the films include A Sinnerwoman’s Consequence, directed by Zavia Forrest; Eating is a Very Tender Thing, directed by Michaela Robertson; and How Do Clowns Say I Love You?, directed by Sydney Herauf and Dylan Mitro. The prizes were awarded by the audience and a panel of esteemed judges from the Toronto music and film community. The panel included Sloppy Jones creator/actress Sophie Nation and Director Emily Cohn whose film Crushd was showing in the festival.
The winner was Juice Box. Juice Box will receive studio recording time at The Dream House Studios and a scoring opportunity on the Sloppy Jones. While scoring the series the band will be mentored by the generous Dream House Studios Team and talented Phil Strong who did the music and mix for our teasers.
We are so excited to work with Juice Box. Although new to the scene, they have already been making their mark in the music scene. The group of 10, comes all over Toronto and the GTA giving the band an eclectic sound.
Members include, Jeremy and Joshua Francis, Karinne Coelho, Lexie Reece, Mason Borges, Matthew Thibault, MJ Elis, Martin Gomes, Nick Manalo, and Vanessa Soares.
