We’re back at it again with another playlist inspired by the world of Sloppy Jones. Keep checking back on this blog for more playlists featuring some killer vibes and great tunes.
You can find all of our character playlists on the official Sloppy Jones Spotify or click play below!
This week’s playlist is inspired by good time himbo Damian Hardwell and curated by actor Sebastian Sage.
Foreword from Sebastian Sage
I’ve always thought you can tell a great deal about a person from what kind of music they like to listen to. Damian being a musician, this is especially true of him. In lieu of a playlist compiled by Damian himself, here’s perhaps the next best thing: a playlist compiled by the actor who plays him.
Bringing Damian to life has been a blast, and making this playlist has served as an elucidating character exercise for me, helping me render for myself a more three-dimensional vision of him. I hope you enjoy this auditory journey into Damian’s world!
Sloppy Jones Playlist: Damian
Jimi Hendrix – Come On (Let the Good Times Roll)
This song speaks to Damian’s simple ethos on life. More by his nature than by conscious choice, he pays little attention to the everyday problems faced by himself and those around him and instead focuses only on the good times both in the moment and rolling around the corner.
The Rolling Stones – Let’s Spend the Night Together
The perfect song for Damian’s favourite pastime: one night stands.
Air – Sexy Boy
He’s a Sexy Boy and he knows it.
Iggy Pop – Bang Bang
Underneath Damian’s fun-loving, easy going exterior, there’s a part of him that occasionally feels pangs of the loneliness that comes with being as adverse to commitment as he is. Still though, he laughs it off and drinks, parties, and fucks his way through the pain.
Lou Reed – Walk on the Wild Side
A seminal queer anthem and also where Damian prefers to dwell: the wild side. He grooves his way through it with the smoothness of this song’s iconic bass-line.
David Bowie – John, I’m Only Dancing
A song about someone who’s both bisexual and insatiably thirsty. This is a song about Damian.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – The Singer
As a gigging musician, Damian is most in his element onstage. His audiences love him and he loves them. Performing is like a drug to him. When the effects ware off, however, he can’t help but feel lonely, alienated, and under-appreciated in his day-to-day life.
Pulp – F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E
Damian is committed to an uncommitted lifestyle, so whenever he catches feelings for someone, he protests to himself, “it doesn’t make no sense, no, it’s not convenient no, it doesn’t fit my plans, no, it’s something I don’t understand, oh.”
Iggy Pop – Lust for Life
A fast-paced banger that perfectly represents the compulsion Damian has to live life to the fullest. The chief target of his characteristic lust is life itself.
Tropical Fuck Storm – Staying Alive
Like any brother or mother, particularly in the restaurant industry, Damian takes things one day at a time, just staying alive. The mundanaiety and repetitiveness of life when he’s not performing also means Damian sometimes can’t help but relate to the song’s call for help, feeling like life is going nowhere. Also, Tropical Fuck Storm, in addition to describing Damian’s last vacation in Tahiti, performs a cover of the song that I happen to think is actually an improvement on the original.
