Press Release For Immediate Release:
Aussie/Canadian Producer Susan Black Nation and Co-Creator/Star Sophie Nation are excited to share that Sloppy Jones is surfing a wave of festival success that has reached around the world as far away as both Australia and New Zealand this month.
On Saturday November 12th, the queer slasher comedy won Best International Narrative Show in NZ Webfest along with nominations for Best Ensemble and Best Director.
The series has also been selected for Sydney Webfest, which will be held December 3rd, much to the delight of Sophie’s grandparents and cousins who live in Sydney and are incredibly proud.
“We are very grateful to OUTtv for giving our quirky queer series and diverse team both funding support and a wonderful global platform which allows us to reach audiences as far away as the UK, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. We are also incredibly lucky to have had development, production and global marketing support from Ontario Creates and the Canada Media Fund. It is exciting to see how well Canadian Talent and Web Series, especially OUTtv LGBTQ+ series like Sloppy Jones, Avocado Toast, and Dating Unlocked, are doing with festivals and audiences around the world thanks to this support.” Susan Nation.
The Sloppy team were also on the red carpet in person at wonderful LA Webfest, Bilbao Seriesland and OWTFF over the last 3 weeks.
They were there in spirit and virtually in New Jersey, Baltimore, Minnesota, Chicago, Atlanta and more.
They had multiple nominations and wins for Best Dramedy and Best Actor in LA, Best Director in Bilbao, Best LGBTQ+ Representation in Minnesota and Best Web Series and Best Script in Toronto.
Many of these festivals not only celebrate talent, quality, craft and hard work, but also provide opportunities to network, learn from peers and experts, and promote representation in front of and behind the camera. Susan was part of a panel on women in web series and TV in beautiful Bilbao.
Susan and Exec Producer/DOP Dale Hildebrand did a Q & A on funding, producing, filming and marketing Sloppy Jones at OWTFF. Susan also fan-girled and heard about breaking into comedy and the role of a showrunner from talented Canadian Comedy Success story, Antony Q. Farrell, who is running a Bootcamp for BIPOC Showrunners and was kind enough to speak at OWTFF.
Next up – over the next 4 weeks Sloppy Jones is taking part in Rio Webfest from November 24th (live and virtual), Sydney Webfest December 3(live and virtual) and British Web Awards December 10 (virtual), which all look amazing.
